Enjoy Starbuck

Boating

Starbuck is located on the western shores of Lake Minnewaska. It is a small community with the heart and soul of the people’s heritage. Lake Minnewaska is the 13th largest lake in Minnesota and it offers some of the best fishing and recreation in the area.

The Starbuck Area Chamber of Commerce hosts many events throughout the year. Some of them are Boy Scout Fishing Derby, Spring Fling,  Lake Minnewaska Warm Up Run, Heritage Days celebrated around the fourth of July, host the Model T Run  Brunch, Christmas Open House and Santa Day. For the 2nd year, the Chinese Dragon Boat Racing will be held the 2nd weekend of August. Over 2,500 people paddled or watch the races.   Dragon boat racing is the fasting growing water sport and Starbuck is excited to host this event. This year, the races will host a Breast Cancer Survivor Division.  This will be the first in Minnesota.   Along with the dragon boat racing will be Taste of Heritage. In 1883, the city of Starbuck began its journey in the history of Minnesota, but there is still a debate as to how Starbuck received its name. One of the stories is that the oxen used to help build the railroad were named Star and Buck. The other version is that Starbuck is named after a railroad director of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Because of the railroad making its way through the community, a number of historical sites remain.
